You must have come across websites that contain loads of well-built flash designs, heavy use of bright colors, and large volumes of text to the extent that they scare you.  Why does this happen?  You’ve all heard the phrase ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’.  Well, the same applies in web design.  Often, many of the extra features serve no purpose in addressing the concerns and requirements of the site visitors, and can instead drive them away.  Take for example, flash design.  Too much flash takes time to download, which your viewers may simply not have the time for.  They’ll inevitably search for another site which delivers the same functions and saves them time and energy.

But hold on a minute.  This does not imply that web design “extras” should be banned altogether.  On the contrary, when used in complimentary ways, these enhancements can truly make a big difference in a site’s content.  Web design trends in recent years have become creative, yet more practical in nature.

Web design companies have become aware of the fact that overloading a website with images, irrelevant text or colors, is ineffective and unnecessary.  Using web design themes that offer calming, informative, query solving designs are in demand.  Basic colors or fonts are making a comeback.   In addition, web designers use blank space in appropriate areas in order to place a focus on a particular topic, and allow a viewer to absorb the content without being bombarded by too much information.

E-commerce website designs are witnessing an image makeover in recognition of the fact that clutter causes confusion and lack of interest.  Website designers concentrate on applying smart icons and concise informative text and images.  Website development is seeing significant changes in approach for website designing.

The usage of fonts in website design plays a significant role in attracting visitors’ attention.  The size of the font, its color and type are significant characteristics and can give a new look to any website.  Some website designers use more than one type of font; however it is recommended to limit it to two.  Highlighting particular words with different colors, font sizes or types has become a very effective tool.

Factors like site layout, font usage, web images, and the use of technologically advanced designing tools determine the overall look of any website and can truly make the difference between a site’s failure and success.
