There are different elements that constitute the web design. Some of the elements play a key role in the success of the web design. One such element is the contrast.
Now what is contrast?
The great variation among the elements of the website design is called contrast. The variation could be between two or more than two elements. When a text is typed in a regular font there are some things that are made bold, italicized and even underlined and made to look different from the rest of the content. This is one of the best examples of contrast.
What would be the consequence if there was no contrast?
All the fonts in the text would be uniform without any variation. This would be not only boring for the visitor but would not allow the key elements to be highlighted and seen by the visitors. So if the website designer wants the visitor’s eye to follow a particular pattern he/she has to resort to contrast.
How many type of contrast are there in web designing?
The three types of contrast in web designing are as follows:
• Alignment Contrast:
Contrast depends on variation. If everything is left aligned, there will be uniformity but no variation and as a consequence there will be no difference in alignment. If the subheadings are left aligned while the rest of the text content of the paragraph is aligned along a big left margin it is going to create the alignment contrast. The other way alignment contrast can be created is when the subheading is center aligned and the rest of the paragraph content is left aligned without any margin. The alignment contrast is very effective for the headings and the subheadings.
• Size Contrast:
In web designing the variation in sizes can create contrast. Some elements that need to grab the attention of the visitor can be coded to be presented in a size bigger than the rest of the content. The size contrast is used more often with the headings and subheadings. This type of contrast is much helpful when the designer wants to create a hierarchy. On the other hand size contrast is also very effective when the designer cannot depend on the color contrast or color scheme for making some text look different.
• Color Contrast:
When anyone speaks about contrast the first thing that comes to the mind of most of the designers is the color difference. The contrast in the color plays a detrimental role in the success of the web design. One should note the when the difference between the two contents is more the contrast in the color will also be more, but if the two pieces of content are related to each other the contrast is very less. Most of the designers apply the color contrast with reference to the background and the text. A lot of color contrast is found in case of the header, footer and content area, to make the reader feel the big difference between them. The color contrast can be used effectively by creating the color contrast between the heading, subheading and words or phrases of key importance and the background.
