In the web designing process, design is the second stage and follows the planning stage. It is more towards the realization of the things documented in the planning stage. The result of the planning is represented as a visual in the design stage. The final result of the design stage is a site structure that is well documented with all the necessary details. When the design phase is completed the outer sketch of the web design should be ready. This implies that the design phase leads to a structured website that is without the content and other features incorporated to make the website attractive.

Some of the most important aspects of the design stage in the web design process are as follows:

• Planning of the design elements and wireframe:

The outer sketch or the skeleton or the basic frame of the website is called wireframe. The wireframe is the first stage wherein actually the website layout is taking the form. The layout of the website is prepared on the basis of the information collected in the planning stage and with the help of the wireframe. There are many online tools avails for preparing the wireframe but the experienced web designers are of the view that the pencil and paper are the best tools for preparing the wireframe. The designer can use either ways depending on comfort.

• Design of the Mock-ups:

The mock-ups should be designed on the basis of the requirement analysis that was done earlier. It should be done with the help of Photoshop because this makes the task of modification easy. Designing in Photoshop allows the design elements to be kept in properly organized layers. The task of coding and slicing in the later stages becomes easy when the mock-ups are designed in Photoshop.

• Approval:

The mock-ups should be approved by the client. The designer should never start coding without the approval of the client because when the coding starts it becomes difficult to bring about amendments in the web design. The three steps viz. review, tweak and approval go in cycles. The cycles continue till the client and the designer are not satisfied with the mock-up design. This is one of the most convenient stages for bringing about corrections and changes.

• Slicing and Coding:

Once the client and the designer give a final approval to the mock-up, the coding should start. The mockup that has been finally approved is sliced. The basic design is prepared with the help of HTML and the CSS. The visuals are got on the screen. All the codes that you use need to be validated and only after this should the designer thinks of other things like jQuery and other interactive elements.
